Catherine Candland

Catherine Candland has led MSP/ VMS provider nextSource as CEO since January 2014. She previously was founder and CEO of Advantage Human Resourcing, growing the company into a $400 million firm from 2004 to 2009 before selling it to Japanese staffing giant Recruit Holdings Co. Candland then became CEO of Nelson Family of Companies, and led the sale of Nelson’s WorkforceLogic to ZeroChaos before joining nextSource. Candland’s leadership philosophy is to help organizations and team members discover and harness the power of what they are deeply passionate about, to continually differentiate their strengths and strive to improve and grow. She believes that when this happens, whether personally or as a company, true value is created and success naturally happens.


Melissa Byington

Melissa Byington is president of the locum tenens division of CompHealth, a division of CHG Healthcare Services, one of the largest US healthcare staffing firms. She joined the company as a physician recruiter more than 18 years ago and took over her current role in 2011. Byington affects retention at the firm with a continued emphasis on training, transparency and trust; this year, 92% of CompHealth employees said they were engaged in their jobs, and the firm has ranked among Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” for the past six years. Byington also works to raise the profile of the locum tenens industry as president of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations.

Sue Burnett founded Houston-based Burnett Specialists in 1974. In line with her guiding philosophies — such as treating others the way they want to be treated — the company implemented an employee stock ownership plan in 2010 and is now the largest employee-owned staffing firm in Texas. The National Diversity Council named Burnett one of the 2015 Most Powerful & Influential Women of Texas, and the Texas Women’s Chamber of Commerce named her Texas Business Woman of the Year in 2012. Burnett Specialists operates nine Texas locations, including a Choice Specialists office in Dallas.

Janice Bryant-Howroyd is the first African American woman to own a billion-dollar company. She launched ACT•1 Group — now the largest workforce solutions company founded in the US by a minority woman — in 1978 with $1,500, which included a $900 loan from her mother. Today, the company delivers on a global scale with about 12,000 clients and offices throughout North America, Latin America, Asia and Europe. Bryant Howroyd sits on seven executive boards, including the Women’s Leadership Board at Harvard and the board of trustees at her alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University. Believing people perform best when their personal strengths are developed and challenged, she aims to provide the firm’s more than 2,600 employees with an innovative, learning and service-driven environment.

Lisa Biondi

As CIO for System One, Lisa Biondi is responsible for corporate technology strategy, designing and implementing enterprise IT solutions and technology support. Less than 10 years after System One’s spin-off from Hudson Highland Group, Bondi has retooled the company’s infrastructure to facilitate its rapid growth into the 23rd-largest US staffing firm. Biondi led multiple IT initiatives within System One, including the transition of business applications to SaaS and cloud-based platforms supporting financial, accounting, human resources, benefits and payroll systems. Sue Bhatia is CEO of Rose International, the 31st-largest US staffing firm. Bhatia founded the IT, business professional, call center and office/clerical staffing provider in 1993. The St. Louis-based company provides staff to customers in all 50 states. In 2013, Rose International was named one of the 50 fastest-growing woman-owned companies in North America by the Women Presidents’ Organization. Rose International has also appeared on the list of fastest-growing US staffing firms, most recently in 2013.

Formerly Pro Unlimited’s SVP of client services, Allie (Ayelet) Ben-Shlomo was recently promoted to COO and EVP of client services, overseeing a team that develops contingent workforce programs for Fortune 1000 clients with operations in the US and globally. Some key initiatives Ben-Shlomo spearheaded include launching a global MSP offering, creating an SOW management solution, building an integrated services-technology self-sourcing capability and continued evolution of PRO’s vendor-neutral MSP approach that has led to annual double-digit revenue growth. During her tenure managing the client services team, PRO has maintained consistently high client and supplier satisfaction scores and achieved its highest client retention rates.

Tanya Axenson handles all aspects of global human resources for Allegis Group Inc., the fourth-largest global staffing provider and the largest staffing firm in the US, while spearheading the development of the company’s human resources strategy. Prior to assuming this role in February 2015, she was chief human resources officer for Aerotek Inc., an Allegis Group operating company. Axenson oversaw all aspects of Aerotek’s human resources, diversity and inclusion, talent acquisition and talent management initiatives. Penmac Staffing Services President Paula Adams strives to create a culture based on strong relationships. Penmac, a woman-owned company for its first 22 years, has always had a majority of female employees. Now an employee-owned company, it prioritizes promotions from within; 27 of its 31 branches are managed by women, proportional to the number of female staff who start in entry-level positions. The company in 2014 met a long-term goal of exceeding $100 million in annual revenue and for the first time ranked on Staffing Industry Analysts’ list of largest staffing firms in the US. As VP and general manager for the west division of Manpower North America, Sunny Ackerman leads all aspects of the company’s staffing operations in this geography. She oversees $700 million in service revenues through 21 states with nearly 120 branches employing approximately 20,000 associates on a weekly basis. Ackerman is responsible for business strategies, sales growth and customer service. She is the executive sponsor of the client-focused aspect of Manpower’s Affordable Care Act implementation, where she successfully achieved cost recovery while maintaining client satisfaction. She also serves as ManpowerGroup’s North America executive sponsor for ACE, a business resource group created to “Advocate, Connect and Elevate” women at ManpowerGroup.
